How amazing is God's Grace to you?
Have you ever been so impressed by something, so overwhelmed with emotion, so in awe - that as you looked for words, all that came out of your mouth was, “WOW?"
Maybe one of those moments for you was when you saw your bride for the first time on your wedding day. When she walked down the aisle, all you could say was, “WOW!” Or perhaps that moment for you was when you stood at the edge of the Grand Canyon for the first time. As you looked out into the amazing vastness, all you could say was, “WOW!”
Normally I am the main preacher at our church, WellSpring Bible Church in Alliance, Ohio. This weekend a good friend of mine, Bob DeAngelo, did a great job sharing the Word with us. We looked at Titus 3:1-7 and the main take away from the passage was posed in a question: How amazing is God’s grace to you? Great question, right?
When you think about God’s grace, how amazed are you? When you realize how amazing grace is, do you sit back and just say, “WOW!” Does the grace of God strike you as being as amazing as seeing your bride for the first time? Or when you consider how awesome God’s grace is, are you as speechless as my friend was when he stood at the edge of the Grand Canyon?
Pretty good question to consider. How amazing is God’s grace to you? If you have never really considered that question, then get your Bible and read through Titus 3:1-7. After you have read through the passage a few times ask yourself, “How amazing is God’s grace?”
Let me give you a few statements to consider as you read. These are questions drawn from the text of scripture, so that we can see how amazing God’s grace truly is.
1. Remember who you were without Christ, and who you would be without Christ.
Have you ever thought about what your life would be like today if Christ had not saved you? Maybe some of us have never thought about it before…but some of us might have a very good picture. In Titus 3, Paul lists several characteristics of what life is like without Christ: foolish, disobedient, deceived, slaves to our lusts and passions, full of anger, envy and hate, and hating one another.
That is a pretty harsh list! But if we are honest with ourselves and believe God’s Word, then that list accurately describes our condition pre-salvation. When you think about it that way, how can you not get excited about all that Christ has done for you? How can you not be amazed at how the grace of God has transformed your life into something new?
Here is something else at which we should be amazed.
2. Remember what God did when He saved you.
If you were to read Titus 3:4-7, you would see a list of things that God did when he saved you.
Consider the following truths drawn from the passage:
· God saved us, not because we deserved it, but because of His mercy.
· God washed us.
· God gave us life.
· God poured out His Holy Spirit on us.
· God justified us.
· God has given us the hope of an eternal inheritance.
It is truly amazing! While mankind (that’s us!) were sinners and acting like it, God's mercy and kindness appeared toward us.
Jesus Christ, your Savior, extended His kindness and love to you, even as you were in rebellion against Him! If you belong to Christ today, then His kindness and love have made all the difference in your life.
How should we respond to this amazing grace?
Let’s start by believing and embracing it by faith. Then, let’s be totally and absolutely amazed by it!
When you consider God’s amazing grace, what is it calling you to do? It is calling you to be saved! But also, to be different!
The amazing grace that saved you has also given you the opportunity to be transformed into something better.
